Pick Analysis. Scouting Report. Round 2. Pick 41. Antoine Winfield, Jr.. S. player. 852

Cleveland did a good job filling the void at safety after deciding not to bring Damarious Randall back and releasing Morgan Burnett. They added two talented veterans in Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo who can both start for them. For Joseph, he could end up being the long-term answer at strong safety, assuming they re-sign him after this year. As for Sendejo, he likely lines up at free safety but will turn 33 years old this season.

Clearly he’s not the long-term starter which is why the Browns use their second-round pick on someone who can fill that role by selecting Minnesota’s Antoine Winfield Jr. The son of a former NFL star and Ohio State product, Winfield was a stud for the Golden Gophers who really broke out in 2019.

During what was considered a redshirt sophomore season, Winfield had career highs in tackles (83), sacks (three), and interceptions (seven). He was one of the leaders on a defense that led Minnesota on a great run to being one of the final remaining defeated teams this past season.

There were some that felt he should return for at least another season after missing all but four games in both 2017 and 2018, but Winfield decided to take advantage of a great campaign and cash in on his NFL dreams. That’s a win for Cleveland as they land a true ballhawk to play their centerfield position.
