Atlanta Falcons fortify defense in 7-round 2020 mock draft

Surprise! The simple fact is that the Falcons cornerback group is troublesome enough that selecting Henderson in the first round isn’t enough to do damage control. While Oliver and Sheffield are young and have potential, Atlanta needs results now and neither are sure bets. Thus, it behooves the Dirty Birds to get another prospect who can come in and be an upgrade at corner.

Bryce Hall would’ve likely been a first-round pick had h entered the 2019 NFL Draft. But he returned and, after an ankle injury derailed his final season at UVA, he’s fallen down some boards. That should not make anyone believe that he’s a bad cornerback, however.

The Cavaliers standout is one of the best zone coverage cornerbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Hall continuously puts his high football IQ on display when dropping into zone, showing his ability to read the quarterback and receiver and then make a play. He also has an ideal frame to go with that feel for zone coverage at 6-1 with long arms, which allows him to close passing lanes.

Despite his length, Hall has limitations as a man-coverage cornerback as he’s not the speediest prospect. He wins with physicality in man but, if he doesn’t get clean contact, he’s burnt toast down the field. In a Cover-3 role, however, he would be great for the Falcons. Getting him in the middle of the second round after nabbing Henderson in the first would be a coup for Atlanta.
