1. player. Pick Analysis. Cornerback. Jeff Okudah. 812. Scouting Report. Ohio State

Missing out on Young would obviously be disappointing for the Lions since they would be missing out on the top defender from this year’s class, but at least Jeffrey Okudah could be one of the best consolation prices.

Young is rightfully considered the best defender in this year’s class, but when it comes to the top cornerback, Okudah deserves to take home those honors since he was shining for the Buckeyes since freshman year in 2017.

In what shouldn’t come as a surprise to any football fan, Okudah decided to declare for the draft following his junior campaign after helping the Buckeyes’ defense along with Young put together one of the top units in the country.

The argument can be made that Detroit should focus on two of their other top needs on the offensive or defensive line, but passing on Okudah as the top cornerback would be a move that could haunt the Lions down the road.

Okudah’s tackling will need to improve in the NFL to help the cornerback live up to the high expectations, but hopefully he can help fix this issue with the right coaching from Patricia and the Lions if this turns out to be the direction the team leans towards in the first round.
