There’s a lot to like about what the Dolphins have at linebacker with Van Noy joining Raekwon McMillan and Jerome Baker along with Kamu Grugier Hill, another free-agent addition. But if you can add athletes and depth with a player like Davion Taylor, it’s never a bad thing.

You can’t teach the athletic tools the Colorado product brings to the table. Taylor moves well in space both against the run and in coverage. However, he needs to get stronger and become a better student of the game given his lack of experience. Overall, though, his potential as a fifth-rounder is too great to ignore.

With the addition of Jones in free agency, the Dolphins secondary is, without question, one of the strengths of their defense as he pairs with Howard. However, they could use more depth and quality in terms of sub-package defensive backs, which is exactly what Javelin Guidry offers. With elite speed and burst, he can hang with anyone. He simply lacks the size and power in his game to be an every-down player. But his value in Round 5 is enough for Miami to jump at the opportunity to take him.

One area the Miami Dolphins were clearly set on improving in free agency was on the edge, highlighted by bringing in Shaq Lawson and Emmanuel Ogbah. However, they could still use more youth and depth on the edge and Jonathan Garvin presents that in a major way.

While at The U, Garvin’s best moments are right up there with the top prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, his effort level was inconsistent, which is why he’s available in Round 5. But if Brian Flores and Miami’s coaching staff can further develop him, Garvin has the potential to be an every-down defender on the edge for Miami.
