Pick Analysis. Baylor. player. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver. Denzel Mims. 4. 860

Denzel Mims is one of the highest risers in the draft. He took full advantage of the postseason. He went to the Senior Bowl where he dominated every cornerback assigned to cover him. Scouts started to notice him as a true NFL prospect who could help offenses at the next level.

Mims continued to impress when he got to the NFL Combine. He ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash and did well on every positional drill. Before the world pandemic crisis changed our lives, Mims was one of the hottest receiver prospects in the draft.

Taylor Gabriel was the resident speed burner for the Chicago Bears’ offense. NIcknamed “Turbo” he could extend defenses which allow the receivers underneath more space to work. The Bears cut him, however, to create more cap space to sign free agents. Now Mims can be Gabriel’s replacement.

Mims uses his body to create an incredible catch radius. He can catch just about anything that’s close to him. He does a great job of snatching the ball at its highest point. Also, he blocks out defenders well and does a good job of making the catch away from his body.

Mims does have to work on his route running and his concentration. He’ll make incredible catches but sometimes he’ll also drop an easy pass. He concentrates more on difficult passes and has to learn to do the same on easy ones.

Combine Mims with Robinson and the Bears have a pretty good duo. Throw in Miller, Patterson and (hopefully) Ridley, and this is one strong unit.
