The Denver Broncos showed promise once Drew Lock took over and they start to build up around him in this 7-round 2020 mock draft.

After bringing in Joe Flacco didn’t pan out, the Denver Broncos eventually turned to second-round rookie quarterback Drew Lock. While he had his ups and downs, he helped the team finish the year on a 4-1 stretch and give the team hope for the future. Now they eye the 2020 NFL Draft with hopes of making a big leap as their young signal-caller does the same.

Denver has enjoyed a nice offseason thus far, securing A.J. Bouye and Jurrell Casey via trade and signing both Graham Glasgow and Melvin Gordon. However, they aren’t without needing improvements. The secondary still lost Chris Harris Jr. and have no real replacement opposite Bouye. Meanwhile, Courtland Sutton, who had a big-time 2019 campaign, is looking for a running mate at wide receiver.

Overall, the Broncos are a young team that is supplemented by solid veterans, headlined by the likes of Von Miller and Justin Simmons on defense. However, they can continue to improve their situation in the 2020 NFL Draft if they work wisely on both sides of the ball, which is the goal in this latest 7-round 2020 mock draft.

As valuable as the addition of Bouye can and should be for the Broncos, he can’t be the No. 1 coverage option in the Denver secondary. In the pass-happy NFL, having the ability to cover consistently is of paramount importance and Davontae Harris or Isaac Yiadom don’t appear ready to be in an every-down role opposite Bouye.

Kristian Fulton is one of the standout defensive prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft, however. He has the speed and footwork to succeed as an NFL cornerback but also plays with great balance, patience and anticipation. He’s able to mirror and diagnose plays but also has the tools to recover if he does lose slightly initially.

If there’s an aspect of Fulton’s game that needs work, there are times where the LSU product can get out-muscled as he’s not the most physical player. But again, his speed, quickness and footwork make him strong enough to make up for any shortcomings in that area if he gets beat in that way.

Adding Bouye is a win for the Broncos as he’s still under 30 years old and has several good years ahead of him. But adding Fulton opposite the former Jaguar would be huge for Denver’s defense. While many believe the Broncos should take a wide receiver at No. 15, if the top three guys are gone, grabbing a player like Fulton is the franchise’s best option.
