The new Falcons uniforms have officially lowered the bar for new NFL team uniforms as the new digs Atlanta will be rocking completely drop the ball.

The new Falcons uniforms were supposed to be released on April 14, one week after another new NFL uniform for the Buccaneers was released. However, when a leak of the Atlanta Falcons’ new uniforms started reaching social media on Tuesday, that changed the timeline.

Subsequently, owner Arthur Blank and the organization released the new Falcons uniforms on Wednesday to much anticipation. After all, this was the first uniform change for Atlanta in the last 17 years.

And with all the fanfare and excitement — especially after a strong upgrade from Tampa Bay — this is what they came up with the new Falcons uniforms.

This is bad — like, really bad. Outside of the throwbacks, the new look has a very Arena Football League/XFL/Pac-12 trying too hard/I didn’t spend enough time on my Madden Create A Franchise jerseys look to them.

It’s bland in terms of how the colors are used on the whites and blacks. But what’s worse is that, where they tried to spice it up with the new Falcons uniforms, they failed miserably. The gradient of the red uniforms looks horrendous. And only slightly less bad than that is the numbering on all three primary jerseys, which just looks tacky given how over-simplified the rest of the jersey is.

Especially in the wake of the Buccaneers improving upon some of the worst NFL uniforms in the league, you would hope that the Falcons changing it up after 17 years would be a win for Atlanta. Instead, they got a fastball down the middle and whiffed horrendously.

And if you thought this was just one man’s opinion, check out the reactions from many fans to the new Falcons uniforms and others.

So yeah — suffice it to say that the majority of fans are not taking these new Falcons uniforms well.

If there is one saving grace, it’s that at least Atlanta is keeping the black-on-white throwbacks (the ones on the far right of the picture the team released. Even that, one of my favorite combinations in the league, isn’t enough to save the debacle that is these new threads.
