New York Jets stockpile talent in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
The Jets have two picks in the third round and they use the first of those on a cornerback in Cameron Dantzler from Mississippi State. New York recently released Trumaine Johnson, who was signed ahead of the 2018 season to be their star cornerback.
That ended up not working out and they enter this season with Brian Poole and Blessuan Austin as their top-rated cornerbacks. They could use a little more depth there and Dantzler gives them someone capable of playing significant snaps as a rookie with starter upside down the road.
Dantzler has excellent size at 6-foot-2 and 185-pounds and can excel on the corner. He does need to learn to be more physical but getting a chip on his shoulder from being overlooked often in this class could help him develop that.
With their second pick in the third round, the Jets land an edge rusher in Joshua Uche from Michigan. Uche is a bit of a hybrid player who is built like a linebacker at 6-1 and 245 pounds but plays more like an edge rusher as he had 14.5 sacks over the past two seasons for the Wolverines.
That makes him a solid fit for the Jets, who can use him as an outside linebacker in their 3-4 sets. He could be a starter for them this season given their need and there’s a chance he could turn into a solid player for them for years to come.
