While the Chicago Bears filled some of their holes through free agency, these are the five biggest needs to address through the 2020 NFL Draft.

There are two ways a team like the Chicago Bears build a winning team. One way is through free agency. When that period first hits, there are a plethora of players available to sign who could help the team become a title contender.

Of course, with a list of players who are available to every team, the cost of finding those players is prohibitive. Going through free agency, a team usually overpays for the services of a player it targets.

The other way to build is through the NFL Draft. This is a much cheaper way to go. Prospects drafted have a certain, low-cost salary, depending on where they’re drafted. Teams have control over them for a good time, usually four seasons (an opportunity for five is available for top-10 picks).

The Bears filled some of their holes through free agency in March. They signed players who they feel are a good fit. Despite all the signings, the team still has other needs to address and they’ll try to do so in this draft.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the Bears hit on their draft picks. Some prospects just can’t translate their college success to the professional level. Trying to scout and draft the right prospect is a difficult situation. If they do hit on a player, they’re set on that position until it’s time to re-sign the player. If they don’t, they’ll struggle there for a few seasons.

Despite their 2019 struggles, the Chicago Bears are still a contending team, especially with the added team to the playoffs. They were involved in many close games. Five of their eight losses were by eight points or less. A completion here or there results in more points scored, in turn resulting in a bump in wins.

Before we start talking about playoffs we need to build the roster. Here are five needs the Chicago Bears have to address in the 2020 NFL Draft after what they accomplished in free agency.
