Running Back: Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills already made a big splash this offseason with their draft capital. At the start of free agency, the Bills traded their first, fifth and sixth-round picks to the Minnesota Vikings for wide receiver Stefon Diggs. While this filled their dire need at receiver, it left them with only two picks in the first 100 selections.

While Devin Singletary, whom the Bills drafted in the third round in 2019, seems primed to receive a featured role, I believe they could add another running back with their first pick in the draft. Singletary performed well last season, averaging 5.1 yards per carry and accumulating nearly 1,000 total yards. However, it looks as though the Bills don’t want to commit to the former FAU product.

The rookie running back shared the load a great deal with Frank Gore during 2019, averaging only four more touches than Gore on a per-game basis. The organization’s preference was on display in their playoff matchup against Houston, where Singletary only out-carried Gore by five totes, despite averaging 1.7 more yards per carry.

While I believe Singletary would be able to handle a workhorse role, Buffalo may elect to bring in a high-priced backfield complement in order to give Josh Allen an abundance of weapons. Running backs like Jonathan Taylor and D’Andre Swift could be a target for the Bills at pick No. 54.
