2020 NFL Draft: Dark horse teams to address each position early
Wide Receiver: Los Angeles Rams
A year ago, it would have been blasphemous to say that the Los Angeles Rams would spend a high pick on a wide receiver. They had arguably one of the best wide receiver trios in the league and were coming off of a Super Bowl appearance.
Brandin Cooks put up his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season, Robert Woods became an extremely reliable possession receiver, and Cooper Kupp became a great slot and red zone threat. But now, that’s all in the past.
Cooks has already been sent packing, having been traded to the Houston Texans for a second-round pick. Kupp and Josh Reynolds are entering the final year of their deals, and the Rams may not be able to re-sign them.
Los Angeles is already strapped for cash after suffering the ramifications of Todd Gurley’s release and Jared Goff’s monstrous cap hit; they are also committed to paying Jalen Ramsey, whom they spent two first-round picks to acquire.
Woods is the only receiver who seems to be a lock to be on the team in 2021, but even that could change. The Rams don’t pick until the latter half of the second round, but they could spend one of their two second-round selections on a wide receiver. Even though Los Angeles has needs along the offensive line and at linebacker, they could surprise a lot of draft analysts by taking a wideout with their first pick in the draft.
