850. Round 3. Bryan Edwards. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Pick 100. WR

Wide receiver might not seem like a big need for the Dallas Cowboys on the surface with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup on the roster. Cooper was just given a massive extension and is coming off his best season as a pro with 79 receptions for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns. He did this despite battling a nagging quad injury all season that slowed him down occasionally.

As for Gallup, the second-year player recorded his first season of over 1,000-yards as he pulled in 66 passes for 1,107 yards with six touchdowns. He also had a caveat with those but numbers as he missed two games after having knee surgery and still put up those numbers.

The problem is, the Cowboys are untested behind those two following the departure of Randall Cobb who joined the Houston Texans on a three-year deal. The expectation is that Mike McCarthy and Kellen Moore plan to use tight end Blake Jarwin more often in the passing game but they do need a slot receiver.

With the pick they added in their earlier projected trade, they find a potential fit in Bryan Edwards from South Carolina. A technician in his routes, Edwards isn’t a prototypical slot receiver but he does have the ability to win in that role as a “big slot.” Even if he can’t perform in that role, both Cooper and Gallup can do damage in the slot, so they can figure something out with this addition that will work.

For the Gamecocks, he had 71 receptions for 816 yards and six scores in his final season which was impressive given the team’s offensive struggles. His sure hands and high football IQ will be a welcome addition to a team that can use some more bodies at wideout.
