Pick 164. Terence Steele. OT. 874. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Round 5. player

With their first of two picks in the fifth round, the Cowboys add some depth to their offensive line with the selection of Terence Steele from Texas Tech. Steele’s addition helps as they recently let Cameron Fleming leave in free agency after declining the final year of his contract with was a team option.

Teams such as Texas Tech can often have players, especially offensive linemen, overlooked due to their air-raid styles often not translating to the NFL. However, Jordan Reid of The Draft Network says Steele isn’t a typical offensive tackle from such an offense.

"Shouldn’t be mistaken for a typical offensive tackle in a pass happy offense. Is infatuated with the physical parts of the game and enjoys the feeling of being able to physically overwhelm the opposition. As seen on down blocks, he places high levels of momentum into blocks to create maximum movement."

If history is any indication, Dallas is going to have to lean on a reserve offensive tackle at some point this season. They have had to start Fleming in three games in each of the past two seasons as Tyron Smith has missed time in each year. He also missed three games in 2017, which is what led to them paying Fleming in free agency.

Steele comes in as a four-year starter for the Red Raiders and would give them depth behind the starters. The team does think highly of Brandon Knight, so Steele could be there to push him while also grooming for the future.
