Dallas Cowboys trade down and secure an edge in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
This offseason, Dallas finally paid attention to the nose tackle position as they added Dontari Poe on a two-year deal. This came after years of watching Rod Marinelli treat the position as something that really didn’t matter. For that reason, fans were rather pleased with the addition of Poe.
New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan seems to prefer bigger linemen which is one of the reasons the team went after the former first-round pick. And in an effort to give him even more beef for the interior of the line, the second pick in the fifth round is used to add another player capable of playing nose, Benito Jones from Michigan State.
Jones is a big lineman at 6-foot-1 and 316-pounds and plays with great strength. He’s capable of holding his own in double teams and has the ability to help right away as a rotational player with upside to start down the road.
Running back isn’t exactly a position of need in Dallas with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard on the roster. Zeke is a featured back capable of carrying the offense and Pollard proved as a rookie that he’s a great change of pace back.
Behind them, they don’t have much and actually spent the majority of the 2019 season with only those two on the active roster. With their final pick, they add Reggie Corbin who is there as a player who could carry the load for an entire game if needed.
It will be the second season in a row they take a back late in the draft in order to look for a third player they would like to keep on the 53.
