Remember all of the excitement surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars around this time last year when they convinced Nick Foles to come on board to run the offense?

Without question, the Jaguars made the right decision in moving on from their former starting quarterback in Blake Bortles to pave the way for the former Super Bowl MVP, but whether giving up on Foles after only one season is a different story.

For starters, it was unfair to criticize Foles for what took place last season since he not only suffered an unfortunate injury right away in Week 1 but also due to the fact that Jacksonville didn’t exactly put him in the best position to succeed.

The Jaguars obviously never would have made the decision to trade Foles if they didn’t feel confident enough in Gardner Minshew II being able to handle the responsibilities as the new starter, but also there is no guarantee he will succeed.

Sure, Minshew provided plenty of excitement at times during his rookie campaign when Foles was injured, but how many times have football fans seen other quarterbacks in similar situations, only to end up being complete disappointments?

At least with Jacksonville having two picks in the first round of this year’s draft, maybe one of those selections will be used on a wide receiver to provide Minshew with some extra help.

Otherwise, Minshew’s sophomore campaign could end up being a rough one with the Jaguars.
