Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson tragically died in Alabama on Sunday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jackson was involved in a car accident in Alabama that resulted in the death of the 36-year-old former professional quarterback who last played in the NFL in 2015.
Rapoport reported that he was told of the tragic news from a spokesperson at Tennessee State, where Jackson was a member of the Tigers’ football coaching staff during the 2019 season as the quarterbacks coach.
According to ESPN, the former NFL quarterback was involved in a single-vehicle crash around 9 p.m. on Sunday night near his hometown of Montgomery, AL when his vehicle “struck a tree and then overturned.” Jackson was reportedly transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Jackson played 10 seasons in the NFL with both the Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks. The quarterback played in Minnesota primarily as a backup quarterback for the first five seasons of his career, before signing with Seattle as a free agent in 2011 and finishing his career with the Seahawks in mainly a back-up role as well.
