Miami Dolphins: 5 Targets in 2020 NFL Draft to place AFC East footholds
2. K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU
Guys like A.J. Epenesa, Darrell Taylor, Terrell Lewis or Curtis Weaver could be options for the Dolphins to get an edge rusher either at No. 26 or after the first round. However, with LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson seemingly within reach, why wait? He’s the classic height-weight-speed guy with excellent explosiveness, bend and versatility.
Chaisson has the potential to add weight and strength without losing speed or quickness. Moreover, he understands how to convert speed and strength to power, which aids in his ability to put his hand in the dirt.
Brian Flores’ defense requires players to have versatility — the ability to perform different tasks. Chaisson can do all those things. LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini exploited Chaisson’s athleticism by asking to do things like covering a wheel route, even at 6-3, 254 pounds.
As a rookie, he doesn’t have to start in Week 1 thanks to the Dolphins’ free agency acquisitions. But Flores can use the former Tiger as a chess piece and as a specialist on third downs, giving them the speed on the field to get after the quarterback.
Chaisson has the potential to have double-digit sack numbers, some pass defenses and be a massive contributor in the run game in Flores’ system. So if he’s there at No. 18, they shouldn’t hesitate to run to the virtual podium.
