Miami Dolphins: 5 Targets in 2020 NFL Draft to place AFC East footholds
1. Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
Moving up from the No. 5 pick in the draft to No. 1 isn’t smart, despite the rumors and even if it means getting Joe Burrow. The ideal scenario for Dolphins is if Tua Tagovailoa falls into their laps. It makes sense considering Grier did everything possible to ensure the Dolphins lost every game. And the teardown in Miami wasn’t for Burrow, Chase Young or Justin Herbert.
Tagovailoa made the best of elite talent around him thanks to his own elite skill set. He’s a master in the pocket, understanding how and when to escape thanks to his quick-twitch ability he makes guys miss, get out of the pocket and make plays.
His anticipatory skills are second to none and the same goes for his football IQ. Opposing coordinators had to draw up complex schemes to fool him. No, he doesn’t have a cannon but he can make all the throws. More importantly, he’s accurate at every level of the field.
His injury history has the Miami Dolphins fan base as divided as the NFL media. Still, this is a risk worth taking. The Fins have a veteran in place to take the beating while Tua heals up for a season. Worse case the injury is career-ending, guess what? They have a loaded 2021 NFL Draft as well. Right now, Tagovailoa is a potential franchise quarterback too good to pass up.
