The Pittsburgh Steelers do not pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, they can still find a gem with the 49th overall pick.

After a season where the team’s defense dominated the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers must find a way to boost their struggling offense with their top pick. Pittsburgh wisely traded its 2020 first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for Minkah Fitzpatrick last year. Now, the team won’t make its first selection until the 49th pick.

Besides their lone second-round pick, the Steelers hold one third-rounder, two fourth-rounders, a sixth-rounder and a seventh-rounder. For a team with plenty of aging veterans and some questionable young players, the limited draft picks could prove detrimental in 2020.

While the Steelers could use the 49th pick on a defensive prospect if the right player falls in their lap, the team should try to prop up their offense. Considering the pick is so low, it’s unlikely the team will land a top prospect at any position. Instead, Pittsburgh could select one of the following five players.

5. Jalen Reagor, WR

I’ve also fallen in love with Michael Pittman Jr.’s measurables and film. However, with some analysts projecting Jalen Reagor could even go in the first round, the TCU product seems like a higher-profile wide receiver prospect. If Reagor somehow fell to Pittsburgh at 49th overall, it would be hard to resist adding him to the expanding receiving corps.

Reagor experienced the majority of his success with quarterbacks Michael Collins and Shawn Robinson in 2018. That year, Reagor produced 72 receptions, 1,061 yards, and nine receiving touchdowns. Unfortunately, Reagor failed to reproduce those numbers in 2019 with quarterback Max Duggan.

While he excels with the ball in his hands and flashes exciting fluidity and speed, Reagor can get bogged down against stronger cornerbacks. There are also questions about his competitiveness and ability to work against the press. Overall, Reagor is a quality receiver prospect, but not a first-rounder.
