With two first-round picks, the San Francisco 49ers can make big moves in the 2020 NFL Draft. But what’s the buzz for the NFC champs one week out?

After winning the NFC Championship and coming up just short against Kansas City, the San Francisco 49ers have been busy in the 2020 offseason. Not only did they lock up Arik Armstead to a massive new contract but elected to not sign DeForest Buckner to an extension. Instead, they traded him to the Colts in exchange for the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Grabbing that second first-round pick is huge for the 49ers. After the 31st pick, San Francisco didn’t have a selection until No. 157 in the fifth round. So now they have the opportunity to either take two first-round prospects or make moves to acquire more capital. Suffice it to say that the 49ers hold a lot of cards starting on April 23.

But what will the 49ers do with those cards in the 2020 NFL Draft? Let’s take a look at the latest rumors and buzz regarding San Francisco and what they could potentially do in the draft.

5. Offensive tackle with second first-round pick

When profiling the draft visits that the 49ers have conducted thus far, Matt Barrows of The Athletic (subscription required) made some observations from the list of prospects who have met with San Francisco. And one of those notes from Barrows was that the Niners seem to be looking at an offensive tackle that could be on the board at No. 31 or in the second round:

"The 49ers are looking at offensive tackles, but perhaps ones that are expected to be available late in the first round or early in the second. The draft’s top players at the position, Alabama’s Jedrick Wills and Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, are expected to be taken before the 49ers are on the clock at pick No. 13."

Among the players that the 49ers have met with are Ezra Cleveland out of Boise State and Josh Jones out of Houston. Both players will almost surely be on the board for San Francisco’s second first-round pick and if they should trade down as well.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch don’t yet know what Joe Staley‘s future holds — but they do know the veteran left tackle is nearing the end of his career, whether it’s sooner or later. Both Cleveland and Jones, two athletic big men, could come in and learn behind Staley and be ready to thrive in Shanahan’s offense.
