Chicago Bears: 5 Sleepers to target in 2020 NFL Draft
2. Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona State
Running back David Montgomery needs some help. Cohen is not the type of back who can be a consistent ball carrier. Montgomery needs to have someone who can play enough snaps to keep him fresh. He takes a lot of punishment and someone needs to take some snaps off. Eno Benjamin can be that help for Montgomery.
Montgomery has a similar style of elusive running as Montgomery. Have both of them running around making defenders tire as the game progresses helps the running game down the stretch. Also, throw in Cohen and defenders will have their tongues dragging by the fourth quarter.
Benjamin can change speed effectively and has great body control. Just when you think you have him down, he slips away and gains a big chunk of yards. He is also an asset in the passing game. He had 263 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in 2018. In 2019, he had 347 receiving yards and another two touchdowns.
Between 2018 and 2019, Benjamin’s rushing totals dropped. In 2018, he rushed for 1,642 yards and 16 touchdowns. In 2019, he rushed for 1,083 yards and 10 touchdowns. While he had a dropoff in production, he said something encouraging if you’re the Chicago Bears, per AZCardinals.com:
"“I think I really, truly developed a leadership skill. I mean, it was not more so about me. It was about what can I do to help the team win. So it was getting five carries, 11 carries, 20 yards, 50 yards — little things such as if I’m going to run this run, I’m going to run it as fast as I can, knowing I’m not going to get the ball so I can open up someone else.”"
Benjamin has the mentality of a back who is fine with getting limited snaps. He doesn’t have to be a starter. What he wants to do is contribute when he does get the ball. He’ll be able to be a great backup to Montgomery and help contribute to an effective offense.
