4. Defensive line

A position that hasn’t really been a huge need for the Minnesota Vikings but has suddenly emerged as a position they might need to add to in the NFL Draft comes within the defensive line.

When the free agency period kicked off this offseason, the Vikings ended up losing defensive tackle Linval Joseph in free agency, while veteran defensive end Everson Griffen also looks like he is on his way out of Minnesota before the 2020 year begins.

Minnesota did add former Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Michael Pierce following losing Joseph on the open market, but the Vikings could add to their defensive line in the draft with a few different picks.

Elsewhere on the depth chart, the Vikings do have a few younger guys that could step up to the occasion and slide into a starting role following the departure of both Joseph and Griffen among the defensive line. But that likely won’t hold them back from eventually take a defensive lineman in the draft.

It’s not very likely that Minnesota would use one of its two first-round draft picks on shoring up the defensive line, but if the right prospect ended up falling to the Vikings at either No. 22 or No. 25, maybe the make a surprising selection.

In terms of the purple and gold adding to the defensive line, keep an eye on the middle rounds of the second, third, fourth or fifth rounds to address this need prior to the 2020 season.
