Dallas Cowboys trade back for Frederick replacement in 7-round 2020 mock draft

Dallas is back on the clock for the second time in the second round thanks to their earlier trade with the Green Bay Packers. With this selection, they address another major need and again, it’s on the defensive side of the ball.
The Cowboys also return to a school they know very well as they take Curtis Weaver from Boise State. Weaver will join fellow Boise State defensive linemen DeMarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford as well as Leighton Vander Esch, who also played for the Broncos.
Former head coach Jason Garrett was often outspoken about the team’s respect for what Boise State does and that should continue even without him as Stephen Jones and Will McClay were also heavily involved in the Boise State pipeline.
Weaver played a stand-up pass-rushing position collegiately but that doesn’t matter as much with this new coaching staff. Mike McCarthy and new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan are more interested in adding players who can help in multiple ways and there’s also a chance Nolan could lean more toward using a 3-4 base defense in the future.
During his three years with Boise State, Weaver recorded double-digit sacks twice with a total of 34 sacks for his career. He’s not overly explosive but he’s a smart player who knows how to win with his technique and counter moves. He could do well as the second defensive end opposite a superstar such as Lawrence.
