Scouting Report. S. player. 843. Pick Analysis. Round 3. Pick 82. Terrell Burgess

Throughout the past several seasons, safety has been a huge need for the Cowboys but they just refuse to invest heavily in the position. That’s changed some in 2020 as they did sign Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million. That puts him and Xavier Woods as their starters but each of them will be free agents next season.

This means Dallas would be wise to continue to look for potential starters. Ideally, they could use the No. 17 pick to land Jamal Adams from the New York Jets but that’s likely a pipe dream. Adams would transform their secondary but he’s also nearing the end of his contract and will require a massive investment in that area as well — and the Cowboys are still trying to find a way to pay Dak Prescott after already forking out huge contracts on Ezekiel Elliott, Jaylon Smith, and Amari Cooper.

With that being said, they decide to go for a safety in the draft instead and land Terrell Burgess out of Utah. Listed at 5-11 and 202 pounds, Burgess possesses a great blend of size and speed which he showed off by running a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash and then hitting 20 reps in the bench press.

Burgess doesn’t have the same name recognition as some of the other big-name safeties in this class which ends up helping the Cowboys out as his skill level suggests he should go much higher than 82, but the talent ahead of him forces him to wait to be called on.
