2020 NFL Mock Draft: Unexpected first-round pick for each team
By Dan Parzych
While it certainly has been great to see the New York Jets finally find a quarterback to build the franchise around in Sam Darnold, the offense still has some work to do in order to help him reach new levels in 2020.
One can only imagine how different the results of last season would have been for the Jets if Darnold wasn’t dealing with mono early on, but at least the former USC star helped New York end 2019 on a hot note by winning six of their final eight games.
Now, the question becomes whether New York has what it takes to pick up where they left off in 2020 to potentially emerge as a contender in the AFC, which will obviously be easier said than done.
Numerous areas will need to improve for the Jets in order for the team to be in the best position to live up to the hype, including the offensive line.
At the moment, players like Tristan Wirfs and Mekhi Becton appear to be some of the top prospects in regards to the offensive line, but Austin Jackson is another player worth keeping an eye on in the first round.
Potential wise, Jackson could develop into the kind of lineman to provide the proper protection Darnold needs for years to come, even though selecting him this high in the round may seem like a stretch, as long as it puts the offensive line in great shape, this is all the Jets need.
