2020 NFL Mock Draft: Unexpected first-round pick for each team
By Dan Parzych
After failing to finish on top of the NFC East last season despite all of the major injuries the Philadelphia Eagles were forced to overcome, the Dallas Cowboys will be facing all sorts of heavy pressure entering Mike McCarthy’s first season as the new head coach.
Towards the end of the 2018 season, the Green Bay Packers made the difficult decision to part ways with McCarthy after the team failed to earn a trip to the playoffs for a second year in a row.
This factor along with the belief that McCarthy was letting Aaron Rodgers’ talent go to waste will make some Cowboys fans question whether the team made the right decision in making him their new head coach.
But after a year away from football to reflect, and help learn from his mistakes, McCarthy seems determined to help Dallas return to the playoffs during the 2020 season, although this will be easier said than done.
Most of the attention surrounding Dak Prescott at the moment is whether the quarterback will receive a long-term deal from the Cowboys, but the team also needs to make sure they provide him with the proper protection from the offensive line.
Rightfully so, Tristan Wirfs is projected to go early on in the first round, but if there were any chance of the Iowa standout slipping to the Cowboys at No. 17, this decision would almost seem too easy.
