2020 NFL Mock Draft: Unexpected first-round pick for each team
By Dan Parzych
Realistically, if the New York Giants are on the clock, and Chase Young happens to somehow be available, chances are they are going to make the easy decision in selecting the Ohio State star to provide a major boost to their defense.
But since the purpose of this article involves the completely unexpected, imagine if the Giants decided to focus on offense in this scenario by providing Daniel Jones with an upgrade in protection by going with Louisville’s Mekhi Becton.
Believe it or not, Becton is another player that has seen his stock rise tremendously over the last few months, and should easily turn out to be a first-round selection once the draft officially gets underway.
Last April, New York pulled off a bit of a surprise by selecting Jones early on in the first round, mainly because there were other quarterbacks who seemed like better options at the time.
Like most young quarterbacks, Jones displayed plenty of potential during his rookie campaign, but also has a few areas that will need to improve if the Giants are going to have a shot at being a surprise contender in 2020.
New York will be in great position to land a top offensive lineman right away in the draft, but with Becton’s impressive upper body strength, and blocking skills, the Giants could end up earning a potential steal.
