2020 NFL Mock Draft: Unexpected first-round pick for each team
By Dan Parzych
For months, the speculation surrounding the Miami Dolphins has been the team will use the No. 5 pick to address their need at quarterback, with Tua Tagovailoa arguably being the name most discussed at the moment.
But if the Dolphins were somehow fortunate enough to see Chase Young still on the board once they are officially on the clock for the first time, this would easily be a no brainer for Miami.
Watching Young be part of elite pass rusher conversation over the last two years with 27 combined sacks in 25 games is just one of the many reasons behind the Ohio State standout being the top defender from this year’s class.
With numerous picks in the first round, Miami is fortunate enough where they will be able to help address some of their top needs right away, and while it will certainly be tempting to go quarterback, Young is just too good of a prospect to turn down here.
The Buckeyes’ defense has seen plenty of their former star players go on to have successful NFL careers over the last couple of years, and the San Francisco 49ers landing Nick Bosa a year ago is the perfect example of the high potential surrounding Young this time around.
If the Dolphins or any other team ends up seeing even half the impact from Young as Bosa made during his first NFL season with the 49ers, the defense is going to be in amazing shape.
