1. Cornerback

Probably the biggest position of need for the Atlanta Falcons heading into the 2020 NFL season lies within the cornerback spot in the back end of the defense.

Even more so this offseason, the cornerback position contains a big hole among the Falcons depth chart, especially after cutting veteran defensive back Desmond Trufant at the start of the offseason.

The departure of Trufant means Atlanta is lacking a No. 1 option at cornerback heading into the upcoming year, which is a big issue for a team that failed to hold opposing offenses in check in the passing game during the 2019 campaign.

The hole at that position could result in the Falcons going out and using their first-round draft pick or at least one of their early picks in the draft on a cornerback to help bolster that unit and shore up arguably the biggest need among the defensive group this season.

A few players that could be on the board when Atlanta picks at No. 16 overall is C.J. Henderson from Florida, Kristian Fulton from LSU or Jeff Gladney from TCU. Some other notable names include Trevon Diggs from Alabama and A.J. Terrell of Clemson as well.

After moving on from Trufant, it’s clear that Atlanta is focused on moving in a new direction at cornerback entering 2020, and it’s a strong likelihood that it will go with a defensive back early on in this week’s draft.
