Los Angeles Chargers: Final 7-round 2020 mock draft loads up on offense
The Los Angeles Chargers are entering a new era and they go full bore into it with this final 7-round 2020 mock draft.
For the better part of two decades, the Los Angeles Chargers and quarterback Philip Rivers have been synonymous with one another. But as the 2020 NFL Draft is less than one week away, the Bolts are prepared to turn a new page over and start fresh. And they’ll have the opportunity to do that.
After a relatively aggressive free agency period, head coach Anthony Lynn and general manager Tom Telesco’s club appears primed to fight for a playoff spot in the AFC. Tyrod Taylor is currently penciled in as the starter but the 2020 draft could change that. More importantly, the draft could also put the pieces in place for the Chargers to have one of the most complete rosters in the NFL.
So what will the Los Angeles Chargers do in the 2020 NFL Draft? Let’s take one final look with a final 7-round mock draft for the Bolts just a few days out from the first round beginning on April 23. This mock draft was compiled and simulated using The Draft Network’s mock draft machine.
Everyone from the Chargers organization has been adamant that veteran Tyrod Taylor is going to be their starting quarterback now that Rivers is gone. While it’s right to question the wisdom in such a decision, I’m inclined to believe them given the moves that the franchise has made this offseason.
And though some might disagree, I also believe that selecting Justin Herbert with the No. 6 overall pick would be a continuation of that. Because of what the Chargers have done, the Oregon product would be walking into a tremendous situation where he’s not only protected with the roster around him but also isn’t rushed into starting with a steady, albeit unspectacular veteran as a stopgap.
Herbert is as toolsy as they come with perhaps the best overall blend of physical traits in the 2020 draft class. Where he needs refinement is with his decision-making and, frankly, his on-field leadership and playmaking. But with the time to learn and then step into a favorable spot, this would be the best-case scenario for both the Chargers and Herbert.
