Chicago Bears land quarterback in final 7-round 2020 mock draft
The Chicago Bears will try again to get their franchise quarterback. Yes, they have Trubisky and Nick Foles, but neither player may be in Chicago in 2021. Trubisky is in the final year of his rookie contract. The Bears could pick up his option but don’t expect them to do so. That makes him a free agent.
Foles can void his contract for 2021. If he does so, that leaves the Bears without a franchise quarterback. That’s where Jalen Hurts comes in.
Hurts is a born leader. His coaches and teammates at both Alabama and Oklahoma have nothing but good things to say about him. He owns a 38-4 career record. He is calm under pressure and mentally processes the play quickly.
Hurts can beat the defense with his arm or his feet. He rushed for 3,274 yards and had 43 rushing touchdowns. The Bears use the Run Pass Option (RPO) a lot and Hurts could run it well. He played in 56 games and has experience in big games.
Hurts still has to refine his game. While he processes a play quickly, he sometimes does it too quickly. He knows how a route will finish and sometimes shows impatience in letting the route develop. Instead of waiting, he sometimes tucks it and runs.
Hurts can develop his game before having to step on the field and be the starter. The Bears could sit him the way they wanted to sit Trubisky when he was a rookie. The problem in 2017 was that the Bears had Mike Glennon in front of Trubisky. Hurts will have Foles and maybe Trubisky. Even if Trubisky gets traded, Foles is a better option than Glennon so Hurts really can sit and learn.
With the elite Chicago Bears defense, Hurts can come in and become the franchise quarterback the Chicago Bears have been searching for in the last few decades.
