Chicago Bears land quarterback in final 7-round 2020 mock draft
The Chicago Bears had very good depth at inside linebacker in 2019. We know that because injuries to both starters, Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan, required them to test the theory. Nick Kwiatkoski and Kevin Pierre-Louis both stepped up and played well as starters.
Because of their play, Kwiatkoski and Pierre-Louis both took to free agency and got themselves a nice raise in pay on other teams. That leaves some questions at backup. The Bears currently have Josh Woods and Joel Iyiegbuniwe as backups.
Having Shaquille Quarterman helps add to the depth. He is a physical player who was a four-year starter in Miami. He’s made big plays for the Hurricanes. He is a throwback player, a downhill runner who makes big tackles. His ability to sniff the ball is good and he’s usually found somewhere around the ball carrier.
Quarterman can drop back in coverage as well. He had 12 career passes defended with the Hurricanes and even had an interception. Also, he had five fumble recoveries so he had his fair share of times wearing Miami’s turnover chain.
Quarterman was a tackling machine in Miami. He recorded 356 career tackles and 46.5 tackles for loss. He uses good technique when tackling and he hits the ball carrier with a thud. Additionally, he had 12 sacks. He could challenge the other two for one of the main backup spots.
Quarterman did well during the East-West Shrine game practices. He dropped back well and showed good range. He could be an effective valued pickup for the Bears.
