Jaguars trade: No. 42, 2021 second-round pick and EDGE Yannick Ngakoue
Jets trade: No. 11

Let’s get weird.

With where the New York Jets are selecting in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft (No. 11), the general consensus is that Gang Green should take an offensive tackle or a wide receiver. And to be sure, this offense is in need of both things if they want young quarterback Sam Darnold to develop. But then again, this team also needs to fix the defense and that starts on the edge, a spot where they haven’t had an individual standout in a decade.

That’s why the Jets get wild here and trade the No. 11 pick for a second-round pick this year and next year along with Yannick Ngakoue. Apparently, the Jags are being stingy in trade talks with Ngakoue. But they need to get draft value this year, so they find the trade here, though they have to part with other draft capital to get the 11th overall pick — meaning they still get the two first-round picks they had originally before trading up to take Okudah.

Having already addressed the secondary, the Jaguars now take Jerry Jeudy to give Gardner Minshew II and the offense the weapon they need. D.J. Chark emerged last season and is a nice deep threat. But Jacksonville lacks the high-volume target that can be open on every play, which is where Jeudy can thrive. He’d be immensely valuable for Minshew’s development and make for quite the haul in the Jaguars rebuild.
