2020 NFL Mock Draft: Dolphins score Joe Burrow in all-trades chaos edition
(Pick via Lions)
Considering that the Arizona Cardinals trade Patrick Peterson in this mock draft, it might make sense for them to target a cornerback with the No. 12 pick. But with Byron Murphy showing promise as a rookie last season and with veteran Robert Alford on the roster, they are in a position where they could certainly be fine waiting until Day 2 to take a high-upside player in a deep cornerback class.
Perhaps more than that, hiring Kliff Kingsbury and drafting Kyler Murray with the first overall pick last offseason, in addition to trading for DeAndre Hopkins this offseason, shows that this organization is all-in on having a world-beating offense. But for that to happen, the Cardinals have to fortify their offensive line further. That’s why they take Andrew Thomas with the first pick that they acquired from Detroit in the previous trade.
While at Georgia, Thomas showed everything you need to see to believe that he’s a scheme-versatile tackle that can succeed no matter what. He might not have the freakish size of Becton or the elite athleticism of Wirfs but he’s a polished player that is technically sound and makes the Arizona offense more dangerous. Since that’s the goal, you have to mark this pick as a success.
