Patriots trade: No. 23, 87 and 2021 third-rounder
Broncos trade: No. 15

The closer the 2020 NFL Draft gets, the more convinced I’m becoming that the New England Patriots are going to make a move for a quarterback. How aggressive of a move they make remains to be seen at this point but they have options.

One idea floated by R.J. White of CBS Sports on the April 20 edition of the Pick Six Podcast was the Patriots trading franchise-tagged guard Joe Thuney to the Cleveland Browns for the No. 10 pick. The Patriots would then be in position to move into the top 5-7 picks and take a player like Tua Tagovailoa, who appears to be a pseudo-dream selection for New England given the Bill Belichick-Nick Saban connection.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how the Pats ultimately elect to address the position. But what we can say for certain is that New England must do something. So in this mock draft, they trade one of three third-round picks and a third-rounder next year to move up eight spots and take Jordan Love out of Utah State.

Love would not be an immediate fix for the position in New England as he requires substantial development. However, with the tutelage of Belichick and Josh McDaniels, he has the live arm and athletic talent to be an NFL star. The Pats might be the ideal fit for him and they just so happen to need a signal-caller with Brady gone.
