LSU. K'Lavon Chaisson. 18. 56. Pick Analysis. EDGE. player. Scouting Report

(Pick via Dolphins)

Here’s where trading out of the No. 1 overall pick and taking Justin Herbert instead of Joe Burrow starts to really become “worth it” for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Yes, there’s a dropoff from Burrow to Herbert. But is the dropoff between the two players enough to potentially turn down the opportunity to address other pressing needs on the roster in a major why? That’s where I’m not so sure. If the Bengals could get a high-upside quarterback like the Oregon product and also get the No. 18 pick, they can also take a swing on defense to help give that veteran unit some new life.

To be sure, Cincinnati has made big moves in the 2020 offseason, especially in terms of revamping the secondary via free agency. Moreover, they also signed D.J. Reader to pair with Geno Atkins on the interior and they have a strong rotation of defensive ends. What they don’t have, however, is a possible superstar pass-rusher on the edge. K’Lavon Chaisson has that type of potential.

Chaisson is a flash of lightning coming off of the edge and his explosiveness will allow him to win in the NFL right away. As he develops as a pass-rusher with his strong build and long frame, he can be an unstoppable force, which would give the Bengals a dominant front line on defense to help match a newfound excitement on offense.
