2020 NFL Mock Draft: Dolphins score Joe Burrow in all-trades chaos edition
Jaguars trade: No. 9 and 20
Chargers trade: No. 6 and 71
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been paying the taxman over the past year after largely building their roster through free agency over the last few years. A defense that once featured star-caliber talent such as Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye and Calais Campbell has seen all those players shipped out. Nick Foles was also traded, Telvin Smith retired and Yannick Ngakoue could be traded sooner rather than later.
It’s clear that this team has been tearing things down quite a bit, which is why they have the No. 9 and 20 selections. However, as a result of the teardown in Jacksonville, the secondary has been left largely barren after it was a strength for this team over the course of several seasons. And with Jeffrey Okudah still on the board, they use those two first-rounders to start rebuilding that unit and take the Ohio State product.
Okudah is the near-consensus best cornerback in the 2020 NFL Draft class and for good reason. He checks every box in terms of size, footwork, physicality and ball skills to be one of the top boundary corners in the NFL, which the Jaguars need. While it’s costly to move up and get him, they (spoiler alert) have ways to recoup another high draft pick later on in the first round.
