Denver Broncos prepare Drew Lock for success in final 7-round 2020 mock draft
The Denver Broncos have high hopes for Drew Lock moving into his second season and they set him up to succeed in this final 7-round mock draft for 2020.
For roughly two-thirds of the 2019 season, things didn’t look promising for the Denver Broncos. Questions at quarterback and offensive line lingered while the defense was strong but not the elite unit it had been in year’s past. But after a 3-8 start to the season, second-round rookie quarterback Drew Lock too over. And things turned around.
After Lock led the team to a 4-1 finish to the year, optimism is high around the Broncos. With Bradley Chubb returning from injury to rejoin Von Miller up front, with Ja’Wuan James also coming back from injury to help the O-line and with wide receiver Courtland Sutton looking like a stud, Denver could have a nice future. What they do in the 2020 NFL Draft could determine how nice it is though.
How can the Broncos put Lock in the best position to succeed in terms of their work on both sides of the ball in the 2020 NFL Draft? They do so with the results of this 7-round 2020 mock draft, the final one for Denver this year, which was compiled using The Draft Network’s mock draft machine and TDN Premium (subscription required).
TRADE ALERT: Broncos trade No. 15, 95 and 254 to Browns for No. 10
For the longest time, the buzz has been that the Denver Broncos are enamored with Alabama speedster Henry Ruggs III. Initially, it seemed as if Vic Fangio and John Elway would be able to wait at No. 15 and let the Crimson Tide standout fall to them. But as time has moved on, that’s seemingly less likely.
The good news for fans that want Ruggs is that the Broncos reportedly seem willing to trade up. That’s what they do here as they swap No. 15, a third-round pick and the next-to-last pick in the draft to move ahead of other wide receiver needy teams to the No. 10 spot. And there, they make Ruggs-to-Denver a reality.
Ruggs is perhaps the fastest players in the 2020 NFL Draft class but he’s more than just speed. He has great vision and footwork in his breaks on his routes. His combination of speed and quickness in the open field should beautifully complement the big-bodied game of Sutton and open up the offense in a major way for Lock.
