Alabama. 13. 42. Scouting Report. WR. player. Pick Analysis. Jerry Jeudy

The Pick: I could really say this about any pick going forward, but man, I had trouble with this one. We know head coach Kyle Shanahan has been clamoring for a star wideout for some time now. One instance was when they reportedly went after Odell Beckham. At No. 13, the 49ers can finally get their top wideout, though I think it’s very possible Jerry Jeudy has a small fall on draft day.

Alternative Picks: I was torn between Jeudy and Javon Kinlaw. You may be wondering why a team who traded a star defensive lineman to get this pick would use it on another defensive lineman. The team traded DeForest Buckner because they couldn’t pay him, and this was the best possible return. An argument against a wide receiver is that the 49ers did well enough with just Deebo Samuel in the room last season. Sure, George Kittle and their running backs helped. Sure, they can probably find a good receiver at 31.

And yes, general manager John Lynch reportedly wants to acquire more draft capital. After all, they have 125 spots until they pick again (after their second first-round pick). He could easily trade this pick to someone else.

The reason I keep San Fransisco at this pick is because I couldn’t find anyone willing to move up for a wide receiver other than Denver. And I think Denver could be content sitting at No. 15. Or not. If Denver trades up here, it’s because they don’t want another team to trade up instead and take their guy, who I’ll reveal in a few moments. For now, Lynch will have to recoup draft picks in another way…
