player. Pick Analysis. LSU. 17. 123. Scouting Report. EDGE. K'Lavon Chaisson

The Pick: I breathed a little sigh of relief when I saw this selection because it seems pretty obvious to me. Of course, when it comes to the NFL Draft, that means it could be a complete blindside.

I’ve been seeing Chaisson’s name here for quite some time, and NFL.com Jane Slater’s report only confirmed my suspicions. He’d fit in well on a defensive line that could use his versatility and athleticism.

Alternative Picks: If there’s one player who the Cowboys reportedly love more than Chaisson, it’s Michigan center Cesar Ruiz. I had Ruiz penned to the Dolphins or Seahawks later. Then Travis Frederick retired, vacating a massive hole in the middle of Dallas’ offensive line. Honestly, I can really only see the Cowboys leaving the first round with Chaisson or Ruiz (or both).

I get that Dallas needs a cornerback to replace Byron Jones, and they could use a safety, too. There are some great options for them here if that’s what they decide to do, which I don’t think they do. Lots of other teams have multiple possibilities, and while I guess that essentially applies to every team, I’m only counting on Chaisson or Ruiz here, though LSU’s Grant Delpit or Alabama’s Xavier McKinney won’t surprise me that much.

Neither would Iowa edge rusher A.J. Epenesa, though I expect him to wait a bit longer to hear his name called.
