18. 48. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Austin Jackson. player. OT. USC

(Pick via Jaguars)

The Pick: I’m not a fan of this pick, even though I said the Bucs need to bolster their offensive line. Jackson just doesn’t seem as complete as the top linemen are. In another draft, maybe he’d be a second-round pick.

Actually, never mind because this offensive line class is more top-heavy than most recent classes. As mentioned earlier, Tampa Bay would need a second-round pick to make this work because Jacksonville doesn’t have a third-round pick. But they’d throw in a late rounder to even the deal.

Alternative Picks: So this pick was originally held by the Dolphins. I fully expect them to trade this pick, so I projected them to send it to Jacksonville. If Miami stays, then it seems it’s between Houston’s Josh Jones or Alabama’s Xavier McKinney. The Dolphins need offensive line help, and if they still have this selection, then they likely didn’t move up to take one. Jones is a nice developmental prospect but I think there’s better immediate value here.

They desperately need safety help, though defensive line help isn’t out of the question. If K’Lavon Chaisson is here, he could be the pick. I wouldn’t be surprised by Cesar Ruiz, either. Considering Jacksonville selects again in two picks, I’ll save some more analysis for then.
