Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. S. Alabama. Xavier McKinney. 20. player. 52

The Pick: The Jaguars need another safety opposite Ronnie Harrison. Xavier McKinney’s versatility will be much-needed, especially after losing Jalen Ramsey. (Have I mentioned that yet? He was good. The Jaguars don’t have anyone like him.)

This pick was somewhat of a shot in the dark thanks to my maneuvering to secure the Jaguars C.J. Henderson earlier.

Alternative Picks: Depending on what Jacksonville does with their first pick, I can see this being a cornerback. A guy like A.J. Terrell or Trevon Diggs, maybe even Kristian Fulton. I think Terrell has a better chance of going in the first round than those other two guys.

I did consider to slide them a second cornerback, even after Henderson’s projection earlier. The Jaguars might want a wide receiver here, maybe they shock the world and take a running back, or maybe they want a quarterback like Jordan Love.

Or maybe that’s all just wishful thinking for a franchise that sorely needs some playmakers. In all seriousness, I only expect them to leave the first round with a new cornerback, a new safety or a new defensive lineman. As for McKinney, I really can’t see him falling past Miami at No. 26.
