OT. 31. Tristan Wirfs. 4. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Iowa

The Pick: It’s no secret that general manager Dave Gettleman loves his hog mollies. The offensive and defensive lines are where winning teams, well, win. Gettleman has made this very clear. The Giants have been infatuated with Wirfs for a long time.

My research has the team connected to Wirfs since the end of the season, and SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano echoed the Giants-Wirfs love affair after the combine. You’ll hear this throughout my mock draft, but this team’s priority should be protecting their young quarterback.

Alternative Picks: I was deciding between Wirfs and Clemson Swiss Army knife Isaiah Simmons. Other linemen, like Georgia’s Andrew Thomas or Alabama’s Jedrick Wills, could be in play here, though none have been linked to the Giants as heavily as Wirfs has.

Simmons wouldn’t be an outrageous pick, either. The team needs all sorts of help on defense, so why not select a player who can do a bit of everything?

I didn’t consider a trade here because A. Gettleman hasn’t shown much love to trading down in the NFL Draft and B. I could only see a team make this move at an attempt to snag a quarterback ahead of the next two teams. And I couldn’t think of a team who probably wants one more than the next two.
