2020 NFL Draft: 5 Teams with the most at stake
3. Jacksonville Jaguars
Unlike the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars fell into a rebuild more by circumstance than measured approach. After signing Nick Foles to a colossal four-year, $88 million deal, it appeared the Jaguars would attempt to repeat their 2017 winning formula by utilizing a tremendous defense, a solid rush attack, and average quarterback play to advance in the playoffs.
Unfortunately for Jacksonville, the season went sideways. Foles suffered a collarbone injury in Week 1, Jalen Ramsey chose to hold out for a new deal, and multiple players on the Jaguars roster expressed their disdain with the coaching staff and management.
Towards the middle of the season, the Jaguars decided to enter a rebuild. They traded away virtually every important piece on their roster, including Jalen Ramsey, Nick Foles, A.J. Bouye, and Calais Campbell. The franchise does not seem to be done either, as they have been attempting to unload both Yannick Ngakoue and Leonard Fournette prior to the draft.
In return for their dealings, the Jaguars have received a bounty of draft picks, including two first-rounders, two fourth-rounders, two fifth-rounders and a sixth-rounder. Now, the pressure is on Dave Caldwell to hit on his picks, as he enters his eighth season as general manager and third with Doug Marrone alongside him.
If the Jaguars can’t turn a majority of their picks into startable players, we could see a new regime take over the rebuilding process in 2021.
