With Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement and joining Tom Brady in Tampa, let’s look back on the tight end’s best moments with the New England Patriots.
The New England Patriots and Rob Gronkowski have officially parted ways. On Tuesday, leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, Gronkowski shocked the NFL world when news broke on social media that the veteran and Super Bowl-winning tight end was coming out of retirement.
Unfortunately for New England, however, he wasn’t interested in returning to the Patriots. But rather joining up with a former teammate and friend elsewhere.
Gronkowski, who spent the entire 2019 campaign out of the league after playing the previous nine seasons in New England, has reportedly agreed to come out of retirement with the goal of teaming up with former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter and other reported Tuesday afternoon the Patriots and Buccaneers were having trade discussions surrounding Gronkowski returning to the NFL and being traded to Tampa Bay. Just a few hours later, Schefter reported that Gronkowski will indeed be heading to the Buccaneers, pending a physical.
Gronkowski, who has said in the past that he had an interest in returning to the NFL to team up with Brady but didn’t want to return to New England, now re-forms a once-dominant duo of him and his long-time quarterback in Tampa Bay.
Throughout his nine-year career before the 2019 season, Gronkowski helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles while being selected to five Pro Bowls during that span. He holds career totals of 521 receptions, 7,861 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns coming into 2020.
The tight end, who will turn 31 years old in May, now reunited with Brady once again to try and grab at least one more Super Bowl title before both of their careers officially come to an end.
Unfortunately for Patriots fans, that won’t be in Foxborough.
With Gronkowski’s career in New England now officially over and the tight end joining his former teammate and good friend in Tampa Bay, let’s take a look back at the top three games from Gronkowski’s career with the Patriots.
