After the hype train crashed, Cleveland Browns‘ fans couldn’t wait to move on from the 2019 NFL season. The 2020 NFL Draft was a fresh start for new general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski.
The dynamic duo needed to protect their franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield who, after a promising rookie season, took a major step back in 2019.
The Browns had a ton of weapons on offense with stud wide receivers, two excellent running backs led by Nick Chubb, but something was missing. Mayfield couldn’t find time in the pocket, consequently, he got happy feet resulting in shabby play in his sophomore season. Like any smart team, the Browns opted to protect their young quarterback by.
With the No. 10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Browns selected Alabama offensive tackle, Jedrick Wills. The former Crimson Tide tackle is an elite athlete who showed off with a 5.05-second 40-yard dash during the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine. Wills is 6-5, 312 pounds with excellent feet and quickness, He stones defenders thanks to his base and quick hands.
Moreover, he has a nasty playing style the way he mauls defenders. In the run game, he shows the power at the point of attack and leg drive. The Browns didn’t do anything special, instead, they played it safe. The pressure is on for the Browns to take the next step offensively.
Wills will come in right away and help the blindside of Baker Mayfield. With a top-heavy offensive tackle draft, the Browns did the right thing here. This could help Mayfield’s confidence and the passing game will flourish. This was the right choice for the new-look Browns with a new general manager and head coach.
