2020 NFL Mock Draft, final 7-round prediction: Patriots trade up for QB
At No. 22, the pick that the Vikings acquired from the Buffalo Bills by trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs, Minnesota elected to address their need in the secondary. But now back on the clock with their own pick, they would be doing Kirk Cousins and the rest of the offense a disservice if they didn’t get a weapon for the offense that can be a complement to Adam Thielen.
Denzel Mims has seen his draft stock soar throughout the offseason and for good reason. He was clearly a big body that could win in contested situations on tape but his athletic testing showed how much of a weapon he can be with top-end speed and elite quickness. He can be an athletic threat that should immediately replace Diggs, perhaps even with more consistency.
(Pick via Texans) Yes, running backs have been devalued over the past decade in the NFL. So much so that people will now drag a team through the coals for taking one in the first round. However, the Dolphins rushing attack was the worst in the league last year and, even with Jordan Howard signed, they need someone who can be a reliable option out of the backfield for the offense to work.
D’Andre Swift is not my top running back in the class — more on that soon — but he is the ideal fit for what the Dolphins need if they’re going to use No. 26 on a running back. The Georgia product can be effective between the tackles and outside in space but, more importantly, is an elite threat out of the backfield as a pass-catcher. That will open up the offense in a big way and set Tua up for the most success early on.
