player. 123. Pick Analysis. EDGE. LSU. K'Lavon Chaisson. 17. Scouting Report

Some might say that cornerback or center should be the pick for the Dallas Cowboys at No. 17, the latter especially so if they have the opportunity to trade back. But after losing Robert Quinn in free agency and even with the gamble on Aldon Smith, the Cowboys need an explosive pass-rusher to pair with DeMarcus Lawrence. And I believe LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson is a bonafide stud.

Chaisson’s blend of tools is a rare combination as he has an ideal frame for any edge rushing role to go with nightmarish length and even scarier explosiveness and bend off the end. He improved dramatically throughout the 2019 season with LSU and has all the makings of the high-upside force that the Cowboys need to invest in on the defensive line.

player. OT. 18. Houston. Josh Jones. 59. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

(Pick via Steelers) Rather than trading up into the top five for an offensive tackle, I believe the Miami Dolphins will be content holding onto all three of their first-round picks and getting the value that falls to them. And after taking their franchise quarterback in Tua at No. 5, they take a player who can be their long-time left tackle in Josh Jones out of Houston.

To be sure, Jones is not a finished product as he enters the NFL. He needs to work with his technique, specifically with his footwork and hand placement on a consistent basis. But those are coachable things and he has the size and movement skills that aren’t teachable. If he picks things up quickly, he could insert himself into the top tackles in this class when we look back a couple of years down the road.
