Green Bay Packers: 5 Late-round gems to consider in 2020 NFL Draft
By Joe Kipp
There’s hidden gems in every draft class. Here are five late-round picks for the Green Bay Packers to consider in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Green Bay Packers shocked the NFL world when they selected Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Because Love figures to sit on the bench for the next several seasons, the Packers will need to hit on some hidden talent in the later rounds if they want to maximize the talent around Aaron Rodgers for the immediate future.
Both wide receiver and offensive tackle remain as pressing needs for the Packers. Luckily, this year’s draft class is stocked with deep talent at the receiver position. Intriguing names such as Tee Higgins, Denzel Mims, Michael Pittman Jr., Laviska Shenault, Bryan Edwards, Tyler Johnson and Van Jefferson are all viable options for the Packers on Day 2 of the draft.
As for offensive tackle, Green Bay could look to snag a developmental player like Saahdiq Charles, Jack Driscoll or Ben Bartch in the third round. The Packers signed right tackle Ricky Wagner after losing Bryan Bulaga in free agency to the Los Angeles Chargers. Wagner figures to be a short-term solution, so grooming a player to replace him in the immediate future would be an ideal scenario.
The Packers don’t have a fourth-round pick anymore after trading up to select Love at pick No. 26, meaning the later rounds will be even more important going forward. Green Bay now holds the 62nd and 94th overall selection and won’t pick again until No. 175.
Selecting an impactful late-round player is highly unlikely, but it’s not unheard of. Tom Brady is obviously the greatest example of this. With that said, here are five potential hidden gems the Packers could take in the 2020 NFL Draft.
