2020 NFL Draft: Grades for all 32 first-round picks
Grade: B
It’s clear the Jaguars are trying to focus on upgrading their defense. They already added Henderson earlier in the first round, and now add more speed to the defensive front with the selection of K’Lavon Chaisson at No. 20 overall.
On the surface, this is a great pick. Chaisson was a leader and impact edge defender for the National Champ Tigers a season ago. While he seems like an ideal bookend across from Josh Allen along the Jacksonville defensive line, I’m not sold on him as a top-tier pass rusher who can make a difference from Day 1.
On top of that, he’s dealt with injury issues that have kept him off the field at times. Yes, he’s a great locker room presence and outstanding athlete on the edge, but there’s significant bust potential here. Put simply, Chaisson is a bit of a boom-or-bust prospect.
Despite all of that, the upside is there. Hence, the B grade for the Jaguars’ selection of Chaisson.
